SPAR Australia has reaffirmed its commitment to the local Retail Market with a transformational upgrade to our Brisbane (Queensland) Distribution Centre.

For the past twenty years our Head Office and dry goods facility has been operating from a multipurpose shed and then working with 3PL partners covering our Chilled & Freezer requirements – as from March 2022 next year, we will operate from 13,400m2 warehouse specific, purpose-built facility.

​

The move will have significant benefits to our overall business efficiencies, having a purpose-built design providing unhindered pathways for Goods “Inward & Outbound” movements and with state-of-the-art facilities meaning comprehensive workflows, achieving warehouse and logistics targets will be significantly improved. Additionally, and more importantly with this move will be the consolidation of our dry and wet goods facilities, as you would be aware the chilled/freezer departments of the business are currently under 3PL. The new facility will help SPAR ensure all parts of the business work off the one system, gaining ultimate control over inventory and offering stores a better service.

As part of the build SPAR Australia is planning its best to reduce its environmental footprint. Some of the initiatives taken will the introduction of solar panel power, LED lighting systems, sustainable warehouse & office fittings and rainwater collection. In addition, environmentally friendly gases are used in the chiller freezer facility.

In the warehouse design we have not just covered the now, we have looked to the future. Each area of the warehouse has a minimum 30%-50% growth factor included in the setup.

We are happy to announce, and working inline with SPAR International’s approved supplier program, that the 18,000 pallet racking project was awarded to Junheinrich. 

​

Jungheinrich has a rich history with SPAR International and has worked on several large developments in many countries. Whilst reasonably new to the Australian pallet racking market, the Australian Director had shown a strong desire and willingness to secure the job – this project is their biggest to date in Australia and something they can use to boost their overall presence in the market.
